Meaning of 'Maharaja'

In traditional Indian culture, Ma'ha'ra'ja or Ma'ha'ra'jah means a king or prince, ranking above a rajah.

Maharaja is a popular name among Indian Restaurants and is originated from the Sanskrit word mahrja- meaning 'great king.' The element 'mah' is also related to the Greek word 'mega' and Latin word 'magnus.'
